Guitarist, songrwriter and singer. Matt Backer was born (not all that long ago) in New Orleans, USA and has lived all over the world from exotic places like Mexico, Venezuela , the Caribbean to….another exotic place called Belgium before settling down in London with his wife and two kids.
Apart from appearing and touring very often with ABC, Matt has worked live and in the studio with a number of impressive artists including Matthew Sweet, Cher, Edward Ball, David Arnold, Shirley Bassey, Sinead O'Connor, Joe Cocker, Mica Paris, Stiff Little Fingers, Swing Out Sister, Aimee Mann, The Beautiful South, Steve Earle, Marcella Detroit, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Julian Lennon, Mindy McReady, Elton John, Emmylou Harris, Alice Cooper, Virginia, David McAlmont, S Club 7 , Tony Hadley, Go West , Bananarama, Visage, Mark King, T’Pau, Steve Winwood, Sophie Ellis Bexter, Robbie Williams, Paul Young, Alice Cooper, Bob Geldof and Donny Osmond.
This is not where Matt's biography ends though, he has also
released two great solo CD's, 'Is That All' (2001) and 'The
Impulse Man' (2004) plus some good news...a third solo CD
is on its way!!
Every now and then Matt will have some solo gigs which will
be announced on this website.
In November 2007 he won the NMW 'Best New A/C indie
artist' gong which he collected at their awards ceremony in
Los Angeles. In 2008 he was nominated for four further
awards and performed live at the Awards ceremony.
Matt uses Gibson guitars which he strings with Roto-
sounds, Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups and Fishman
transducers, along with Matchless amplifiers enable him to be
heard, and Boss signal processors cover a multitude of sins.
He additionally composes production music that has featured adverts for Kellog’s, Grolsch, Carlsberg and Bass. Soundtrack music has appeared on ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Third Rock From The Sun’ as well as countless other programmes all over the world!
